Our architects developed the plans for a new 30-bed jail in Cherry County, Nebraska, attaching it to the existing County Annex Building. The jail has two surveillance posts: a master control station surrounded by three housing units, and an open control station surrounded by five housing units and an indoor/outdoor exercise space. The Jail also includes a booking area, a medical exam room, kitchen, laundry and visitation spaces. A Sheriff’s Office makes up one wing of the addition, accessed by a common lobby that allows an accessible route into both the Jail and the County Annex Building. A large meeting room within the Annex Building was renovated into a new County/District Court Room to allow secure prisoner transfer between the jail and court. Ancillary spaces, such as the judge’s chambers and the jury room, are adjacent to the court room.
